Whats TRENDING this summer!

Tis the summer of #HASHTAGS and all things trending!  As July fast approaches and summer swings into full effect I wanted to take a few moments to summarize what is HOT and SIZZLING this summer in Los Angeles!

For fashion, we're going to see a lot of floral prints, denim accents, knuckle rings, and crop tops.  Maxi dresses are still here for another season, but fedoras have just about made their way out.  For bathing suits, I'm still digging a high waisted bottom, but my own wardrobe is full of cheekys!

Summer nightlife in LA tends to migrate from the dark hollywood clubs to more airy places.  You can find me posted up at Larchmont Bungalow in Santa Moinca, Aventine in Hollywood, Nineteen12 at the Beverly Hills Hotel or the good ol' Abbey in West Hollywood.

However, it's the summer days that I most look forward to. I adore the rooftop pools of the SLS Hotel, Roosevelt and the London, a brunch at Geoffreys or Gladstones in Malibu, or some day drinking at The Parlour on Melrose. If you're feeling really adventurous, get your name on the list for XVI at Colony for a Sunday day rave that will leave you with more than a case of the Mondays.

The majority of my July and August will be spent at these fine establishments sipping down sangrias and mojitos in a crop top and high waisted cut off shorts.  Despite that the weather is fabulous year-long, summer gives us an excuse to embrace the sun and celebrate lazy long days with the rest of the country.  So log off of instagram, let down your hair and meet me for a fruity cocktail and good company! #HappySummer!

Coachella Diaries - The Fashion!

Coachella, for me, isn't necessarily about the music - yet more of a cultural experience focused around the fashion.

My fashion do's for Coachella 2013 are as follows:

-You must get a pair of high waisted shorts.  these are a necessity. Melrose is overflowing with every possible pair you could dream of - but their pricey and difficult to find the right fit.  My suggestion is to go for fit (you'll need them to be comfy) and then distress them yourself from there with a little sand paper.

- Ankle boots. another must.

- wide brimmed hats and vintage sunglasses

- bangles upon bangles, don't skimp on the jewelry - have fun with it!

- lacey shirts & cover ups

- cropped tanks, tshirts, bathing suit tops

- flowing skirts and dresses

- floral or tribal prints

-bright block of color - think neon shorts

- American flags

When in doubt, distressed t's, hippie inspired flair and hipster threads will work.  As much as its all about the fashion - you still have to dress for comfort, considering it will be 90s during the day and substantially chillier at night.

These are NOT pjs. In fact, they're adorable. hmph
The jean vest I'm wearing?  My mom's from the 70s. Totally. Coachella-esque
A pop of neon, a textured black top, fun prints & shorts? check.

Coachella Weekend: The Parties

If you're from Los Angeles and you're planning on heading to Coachella weekend, listen up.  The concert is a small blip on your radar in comparison to the onslaught of absurdly amazing parties that are at your fingertips. I say 'if you're from LA' because these aren't your run of the mill, 'I'm a cute girl, I'll get in' parties.  These are exclusive, invite only, you've got to be on the list, celebrity laden extravaganzas.  And they are AWESOME.

Luckily for me, I have a few friends and one spectacular roommate who weasel me onto lists, and I can honestly say that the party experience of Coachella, if attainable, should be your main priority.

This is what MY Coachella weekend looked like:

Friday Night -  Wildfox and friends party.  Embodies Coachella - without the dust. You've still got the fashion, the celebrities, the lounging on the grass -- but add free alcohol, a fire pit, makeup touch ups, and photo booth in an intimate setting. After hours had a casual 40 people over the house we were staying in.. which was walking distance to the festival. no. big. deal.

Saturday Day - Chevy Volt Valley Party put on by my dear friends at NIGHT VISION.  The party was larger than life, with a zip line, hot air balloon rides, and free flowing margaritas.  Sponsored by Patron & Bagatelle, there was everything from gourmet burgers to patron infused ice cream and Popsicle to eat.  Oh by the way.  That car was craned onto a little island in the lake for the party.  Oh and they built a bridge across the lake.  ball. er.

Saturday Night - Started off at the Guess Party (another Night Vision spectacular) where Nervo absolutely killed it in this architecturally pleasing tent venue.

Then headed to Neon Carnival (Bolthouse) for a truly adult only carnival.  There were rides, celebrities everywhere, games, free flowing alcohol, and amazing live music until 4AM.
We couldn't stay until 4 though... because we had to get to this mansion with a dj party in an airport hanger.  Felt a little like a college rage - but in a million dollar home with a name dj.  Around 5:30 it was back to our place -- with the celebrity roommates we were staying with had invited over their 50 closest friends.  This party didn't end, the sun just came up.

Sunday day-  back to Chevy Volt Valley, because really, how can a competing party top hot air balloon rides?

Sunday night - stopped by the actual Coachella festival - to jam out to Red Hot Chili Peppers.  As I posted earlier - the experience is amazing. But it's also freezing, windy, dusty, and you walk for miles upon miles only to elbow and push your way to not even be able to see the performer anyways. Don't get me wrong.  If I never knew of this alternative party weekend, I would have been smitten with Coachella and had the time of my life - maybe even camped!  But mixing the parties and the concert together (with an emphasis on partying) created the perfect weekend.  Maybe if you've got enough stamina you could do the parties the first weekend and the festival the second, but this option is out of the question for me.  Only sleeping under 3 hours for an entire weekend is something I can handle but once a year.

Hollywood Hipsters

Alright.  There's something I need to get off my chest.

I am all for 'hipster' and even dress quite 'hipster-esque' on occasion, but the hollywood hipsters seem to be a tad confused.

Lets take some lessons from the NY crowd shall we?

1. Hipsters should look like they're not trying - but still pull off sexy.  Its not staring at your closet for 4 hours before bearing your less than fit mid drift, wearing a retched fedora and cutting holes in perfectly good tights.

2. If you're a guy, there's a fine line between looking 'hip' and looking flamboyantly gay. If you can't fit your credit card in your pants pocket, you've crossed the line.

3. Mustaches were fun!  but they're going out. Enjoy your last month or two max of mustache inspired fashion statements then let it go.

4. Bandeaus are sexy and can totally turn an outfit hipster chic.  But letting your entire bra show --- or lack of bra show in place of a cute lacy bandeau does not make you a hipster it makes you a whore.

5. On that note, bra-less is sexy.  If you have an a or small b cup.  if not, for god's sake please put them in some kind of holster.

6. i'm over the glasses for people who have perfect eye sight.  you don't see me walking around with 'statement' braces do you?

7. Sunglasses, plaid, jean tops, high waist shorts, distressed tees and hats are a do. But scarves?  scarves are a must.

8. You can lie all you want and say you only buy vintage and eat vegan.  But for god sakes don't say it while you scarf down in and out wearing an entire Urban Outiffters ensemble that hasn't even hit the sales rack yet.

9. Lastly. You can drone on and on about how you like so and so before it became mainstream, but i neither believe you or care.  I'm too busy filtering pictures of us posing with our cigarettes and frowning at clubs, because we're totally over the scene and cannot wait to get out of here and hit up sayers where the rest of our no name actor friends sit around and denounce celebrities for selling out.

HIPSTER DO'S :

Warning signs you've gone Hollywood

So you're from the mid-west and vowed never to turn into "fake hollywood".  Maybe you've been here for only a few weeks.. maybe you're coming up on a year.. but if you can relate to the following statements, then I hate to break it to you - but you've gone Hollywood.

1.  You don't feel like carrying your water bottle on your hike at Runyon Canyon, but you wouldn't dream of not bringing your lip gloss.

2. You publicly declare you're going vegan and organic over drinks with the girls ...then get a double double from In n Out on the way home.

3. You have an unfounded racism towards Persians.

4. You name drop so much that you can't even bear listening to your own stories.

5. You secretly wish you were Jewish so you could have thrown a lavish bat mitzvah for you and your 500 closest school friends.

6. Pitching in for your own meal and drinks when there's guys sitting at the table makes you scowl.

7. You'd give up your family dog before you gave up instagram.

8. Going to a club where you have to wait in line.. even for 2 minutes.. or gasp, not have a table.. is an absolutely ludicrous idea.

9. When you go out you spend more time texting than socializing. Actually, you're kind of over socializing and you spend all of your time texting.

10. You go out for taco tuesdays but get vodka sodas because margaritas make you fat.

11. You spend more money at Sephora than on groceries.

12. You scoff at aspiring actors but secretly submit yourself for auditions.

13. When you see a woman with nice hair you get the urge to poke through it like a monkey to prove that they're extensions.

14. You have picked up a call on the elliptical at the gym ...and been able to carry on a conversation.  Lets get real, you're not going to over exert yourself at the gym.  Sweat?  Ew.

15. You've accepted that you will inevitably become addicted to botox.

16. You've already stopped reading this twice to check your texts.

17. There's no such thing as too blonde.  Or too skinny.

18. When you go over your friends for the bachelorette you put on full make up and do your hair.  You know those bitches are going to instagram the second you walk in the door.

19. Your fear of missing out (which you only refer to as FOMO) is so bad that you feel guilty when you stay in.

20. 9 to 5 jobs seem excruciatingly tedious.

21. You're only having children if you're rich enough to hire a nanny.

22. Getting a new follower on twitter is better than sex.

23. Fro-yo is a part of your daily diet. But you justify it as healthy calcium and nutritious fruit... even if you're getting reeces, toffee hot fudge and a banana slice or two.

24.  You've driven to Vegas more times than you've gone to downtown LA

25. Your morning alarm is Avicci.

26. Your ripped up grungy tank top cost more than you spent on your boyfriend for Christmas.

27.  Your averaging $300/month in unpaid parking tickets -- thank god your cars still in your dad's name.

LA Dating Tips

You chose to go out in hollywood, and now you must pay the price.  Figuratively and literally.  Channeling my inner blonde LA bitch, this is the best advice I can come up with.

Lessons learned from a night (or 40) in Hollywood:

1. Don't explain what you do for work unless you're so filthy rich that you have to elaborate on doing nothing but making money exponentially from deals already made.

2. I don't care who you know unless perhaps it's George Clooney or Heidi Klum.  Name dropping is horrific and i am assuming you're fabricating stories anyways, so just stop.

3.  Please only squirt once with your cologne.  Please?

4. Stealing a girls phone.. putting in your number.. then pressing "call" isn't cute or clever.  And now I want to waste the money to change my number.

5. Don't call my friends stuck up, or bitchy, or rude, or slutty, or anything else derogatory.  I know their whorish wenches, but only I can say that.. not you.

6. Helicopters are impressive.  No copter? (loser) fine. but don't pawn us off into a 6 person limo squished with 24 people and act like you're doing us a favor.  You're the lucky one.. we graced you with our presence.

7. Please don't touch my lower back.   Or my hair.  Or my face, hand, tits, feet, love handles, nothing. Touch the bill when you're ready to pay, and that's it.  If i want physicality, I'll do the touching.

8.  Oh you're an actor? yawn.  you're poor.

9.  Thanks for the $12 vodka soda, but you didn't just buy a blow job.  You bought a girl in LA a drink, all that gets you is 1-2 mins of banter.

10. Hold my camera when I want to take pictures with my friends and I might thank you.  Take my camera, turn it to your face and take the most obnoxious and hideous picture of your gangly snaggle tooth grin and I'll immediately write you off as a d-bag.

11.  Cool fedora.  Ohh wait, fedoras were out of style for guys about the same time as Ed Hardy graphic tees.   Let it go.

12. No really, if you're holding on to anything Ed Hardy.. really let it go.

13. Naming off the top 6 bachelors in this seasons bachelorette doesn't make you instantly attractive ...it makes me question your sexuality.

Really though, LA is tough.  Just be yourself and show your personality and you will literally stick out as an anomaly.  If you can make me giggle or engage me in thought provoking banter then I will gladly let down my front and have the night of my life.   Yes, you can be anyone you want in LA and reinvent yourself... but you'll be transparent.  Channel what makes you unique.. what you are truly passionate about.. and wear it proudly on your shoulder and I promise you'll be irresistible.

Nylon Young Hollywood Party

It doesn't get more quintessential Hollywood than a party by the pool at the Roosevelt.  Throw in a few dozen recognizable names and fill the rest with rising stars and you're at the Annual Nylon Young Hollywood Party.   The event felt like a showcase of fashion, with pops of floral patterns, long flowing dresses and the occasional leather staple, the attendants effortlessly meshed high fashion with laid back hipster.
What a perfect venue to network with likeminded young professionals.  The party provides a forum to congratulate on past  successes and encourage future ambition. Often this open invitation to converse with anyone doting the bright pink party wristband is frowned upon, or even impossible... as the celebrities are usually whisked to private tables away from the masses.  But at Nylon, once you're in, you've made it.  The pink wristband gives you the freedom to strike conversations with even the most star studded name.  Fedoras off to Nylon for a party well thrown, xoxo.
